Master guitarist EARL KLUGH has been lauded first as a prodigy and groundbreaker, then a defining figure, and ultimately, as one of the true statesmen of contemporary jazz. Known for his great tone, and heralded by Modern Guitar as “one of the finest acoustic guitar players today”, Klugh worked with George Benson and Return to Forever in the ‘70’s before striking out on his own. His breakthrough came with 1979’s “One on One” a Grammy winning collaboration with Bob James (Fourplay). Since that time the guitarist has amassed 12 Grammy nominations, most recently The Spice of Life.

Not surprisingly, the adult-aimed radio stations that have followed Klugh’s music through 23 Top Ten Billboard Jazz Chart albums (five of them No. 1). Driftin’ is also an iTunes Bestselling Jazz Song and is one of Billboard’s Hot Smooth Jazz Songs.

RIP ‘Barefoot Diva’ Cesaria Evora.

Cesaria EvoraCesaria Evora, the Grammy-winning singer from Cape Verde who brought that nation’s morna music to a wide international audience, died today, her label Lusafrica reported. She was 70 years old.

Evora, who was known as the “Barefoot Diva” for her habit of performing without shoes, was born in 1941 on the Cape Verde island of Sao Vicente, off the coast of West Africa.

She began singing at the age of 16 in the local sailors’ taverns and recorded her first album in 1988, when she was 47.
