Plush – Best Of: 2000 – 2014

Plush - Best Of 2000 - 2014PLUSH have built an incredibly loyal fan base over the past 17 years, having stood the test of time in an industry where bands come and go overnight. They have consistently managed to pack out live venues without needing to be the mainstream flavour of the week, but rather the constantly loved band who have always been an essential part of their fans’ music experience.

One only need attend a show and witness the crowd singing along word for word to understand the emotional connection between performer and audience. PLUSH have collected countless stories and created great memories on their musical journey, from on stage proposals to fans’ life changing experiences.

However, as with all the good, there are those heartbreaking moments as well, of which the most tragic was the passing of lead guitarist Chas Smit in September 2005.

PLUSH will head off on an 10-date tour across SA performing to fans for the last time as they kick-off “The Postcard Tour” on the 4th of April at Cafe Roux in Cape Town.

This final tour celebrates and remembers this history as PLUSH takes to the road one last time to meet with their fans through great music and Rory’s ever memorable onstage story-telling.

Announcing the news on Facebook, they posted the following to fans on Thursday, 23 January: “We know we’ve been a bit quiet recently, but that does not make the following announcement any easier for us. We’ll be embarking on ‘The Postcard Tour’ in April 2014. It brings to an end this amazing adventure. 17 years, 4 albums, 2 EP’s, numerous singles, friends from all over the globe, thousands of gigs from intimate lounges to raucous festivals, highs, lows, tragedy and triumph – we’ve had the time of our lives. Consider all of this emotion, pack it into a few weeks, and you get our final farewell. A farewell that pays homage to what we as PLUSH hold most dear. You, our fans and friends and all the times we had together.”

RIP Shaluza Max

Shaluza MaxAfter a long battle with Kidney failure, Sheer Sound is sad to announce the passing of prolific composer, singer and songwriter Shaluza Max.

Shaluza Max was a visionary artist whose tenor voice could easily adapt to a range of vocal expression. Strongly rooted in African tradition, Shaluza Max incorporated contemporary jazz with global rhythms that is voracious and versatile. Born in Kwa-Mashu, Durban began his musical career at the tender age of 14 singing in classical choirs.

At the age of 20, Shaluza saw himself touring the world playing to sold out stages with Mbongeni Ngema’s Sarafina whilst being the cast vocal coach. After his stint with Sarafina, Shaluza continued to hone his talent as a solo artist and featuring with several artists such as the Late Busi Mhlongo.

Max co-wrote and co-produced the soundtrack of the celluloid version of South African classic, Jock of the Bushveld. His voice can also be heard on the children’s cartoon hit, The Lion King.

Shaluza Max has the smile which would light up a room and would surely missed by all!!!

Funeral arrangements and memorial service information would be announced shortly.

Rest in peace Shaluza Max!!!
