Dear Reader head home in support of The Lumineers and nationwide tour

On 6 December Dear Reader will join the line-up as one of the local support acts for The Lumineers live at Emmarentia Dam in Johannesburg.

“I am very excited to share the stage with so many talented musicians and decided that it’s an opportunity that should not be passed up. I will be flying home to play the show with a 5-piece band,” says Cherilyn MacNeil.

Dear Reader isn’t so much a band as a one-woman show; that woman being South African bred, Berlin-based, Cherilyn MacNeil. Formerly known as Harris Tweed, Dear Reader has matured into a unique and remarkable sound in the alternative and folk-pop music scene. MacNeil’s latest album, Rivonia, received great reviews for its emotional and poignant take on South Africa’s recent history. Rivonia also received 2 SAMA nominations earlier this year in the categories Best Female and Best Alternative Album.

During the band’s SA visit, Dear Reader will also embark on the nationwide Blue Met Blue tour, a run of intimate, seated shows in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town. The tour kicks off on the 5th December with Dear Reader hosting a special acoustic concert at Lilliesleaf Farm in Rivonia to remember Madiba on the anniversary of his passing. The events that took place at Lilliesleaf in 1963 were the inspiration for the song, Took Them Away, making it an especially significant location for the show. All proceeds will go to the Mandela Institute, which supports rural schools in the Eastern Cape. South African Cult heros Van der Want / Letcher will join Dear Reader on stage.

Another stand-out show will be taking place on December 10th in conjunction with Molo Mollo, an alternative movie night held in unusual locations in Pretoria’s CBD. Dear Reader will play a full-length concert and afterwards there will be a screening of A Coffee in Berlin, the award-winning German Indie film for which Cherilyn received the German Film Prize for Best Film Music in 2013.
