Oliver Mtukudzi – Chikonzi

Oliver Mtukudzi - Chikonzi (Messenger)Re-releases of 1990 classic Oliver Mtukudzi album ‘Chikonzi’, due to popular public demand. No longer manufactured and since even the Zimbabwean pressings ceased in 2000, this great album has thus been unavailable over the years.

The golden voice of Zimbabwe, multi platinum seller and award winner, Tuku is no stranger to South African’s. He has had a string of radio hits, including Toddi, Kunze Kwadoka, and Neria, as well as sold out shows, local and international awards, and has even appeared on the cover of Time magazine.

These classics are back to replace those scratched LP’s, lost albums and once again make that world music collection complete!

Thomas Mapfumo & The Blacks Unlimited "Exile"

Thomas Mapfumo - ExileThomas Mapfumo, or “The Lion of Zimbabwe” is an African pop legend, and has always been a powerful lyricist and purveyor of messages, particularly in wartime during Zimbabwe’s 1970’s independence struggle.

His style, Chimurenga Music (“music of struggle”), first became popular during this pre-liberation period in Zimbabwe (then known as Rhodesia). The sacred Mbira music (traditional thumb piano) of the Shona religion remains the spiritual centre of Chimurenga Music, but elements of Jit (a popular Zimbabwean music style), African jazz, swing, soul and rumba continue to come through.

Exile‘ due out 25 February 2011 is his first new studio recording since 2005’s ‘Rise Up‘.
